Johnny Hallyday into an induced coma after undergoing surgery

French rocker Johnny Hallyday was into an induced coma after a surgery that he suffered in Los Angeles.

The induced coma was necessary and the singer was put into it to avoid pain and complications. Hallyday’s press spokesman said Thursday  in a statement that he is ok and the situation is under control.

French singer was hospitalized at Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on Monday. He had an infection because of an operation on a herniated disc in Paris on November 26.

The statement said that “Doctors at Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles have detected lesions resulting from the November 26 operation in Paris that required reparative surgery last night”.

Johnny Hallyday was operated for colon cancer several months ago and he has been in danger, his wife said: “was not serious in itself as it was detected very early. But the after-effects of the operation were complicated. For 48 hours, he was in danger”.

Friend of Hallyday, Eddy Mitchell, said on Thursday that the rock star passed through a bad time, but he added that there was no need to be worried about him. In an interview to RTL he declared: “He called me just before leaving for Los Angeles and I told him that it was stupid, as travelling for 12 hours in a plane after such an operation is not feasible”.

Johnny Hallyday planned to return on stage on January 8 continuing his “Tour 66″ showin the northern French city of Amiens.
