At the European Film Academy’s annual awards, British actress Kate Winslet won the Best European Actress award. The prize for best European film was won by “Das Weisse Band” (“The White Ribbon”).

The role for which the Titanic star Kate Winslet, won the award gave her also an Oscar in February. She played the role of a camp guard, Hanna Schmitz, in “The Reader”.
The award best director and best screenwriter was won by Austrian Michael Haneke for “Das Weisse Band” (a black and white study in of malice in a German village in the period of World War I), movie that also won the coveted Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes film festival.
Best actor was won by Tahar Rahim for his role in “Un Prophete” (“A Prophet”).
Also this time “Slumdog Millionaire”, which won most of the Oscars this year won the People’s Choice Award for Best European Film.
