Mark Ingram is the first player from Alabama who had won a Heisman Trophy last night, beating Stanford running back Toby Gerhart by 28 points. Mark Ingram shed tears on the stage, but a key person in his life was missing from the ceremony: his dad, Mark Ingram Sr., a football player too who was imprisoned early this year on money laundering charges.

He said to the press the he watches his son`s games in prison: “They know when Alabama’s on TV. Everybody gives me the remote and we watch my son play”.

Mark Ingram Sr. said: “He has to be his own person, be his own man, take and learn from what I’ve done by the mistakes that I’ve made”. They get to talk each other three to four times a week for 30 minutes at a time.
